August 5, 2023

Xiaomi held a global showcase for the Redmi 12 5G in New Delhi, India, on August 1, also unveiling the Redmi 12 4G for Indian consumers. Following their first sale yesterday, Xiaomi proudly announced that it has hit a sales milestone of INR 3 billion ($36 million/€32 million).

Xiaomi reported that it managed to sell 300,000 Redmi 12 series units during the inaugural sale, although it did not specify the breakdown between the 4G and 5G models. The starting price for the Redmi 12 4G is INR9,999 ($120/€110), whereas the base model for the Redmi 12 5G is available at INR11,999 ($145/€130).

The Redmi 12 5G, India’s first smartphone featuring the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, boasts a 6.79″ FullHD+ 90Hz LCD and a 5,000 mAh battery supporting 18W charging. The smartphone includes an 8MP front camera and, on the rear, a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP depth camera.

In contrast, the Redmi 12 4G, powered by the Helio G88 chip, aligns closely with its 5G counterpart in most specifications. However, it includes an additional 8MP ultrawide rear camera and opts for eMMC 5.1 storage instead of the UFS 2.2 found in the Redmi 12 5G model. The comprehensive specifications comparison of the Redmi 12 4G and Redmi 12 5G can be found via this link.
